Thanks to a new ruling by
the Federal Election Commission, citizens can text in donations to
political campaigns in 2012. Because many Americans who don't have
personal computers access the internet and communicate via their
smartphones, this decision opens up a new avenue for small donors.

while it may not quite be the campaign finance equivalent of empowering
America's Davids in the David-versus-Goliath struggle against big money
flowing intp political campaigns (that would be public financing),
progressive groups in coalition had petitioned the FEC to allow the text
donations.
